Mental Health Medicine

All our GP’s are trained in mental health and we are here to help. Often, a mental health consultation or counselling consultation can take longer than 15 minutes, so please ask reception to book a longer appointment.

If you have a diagnosable mental health condition, you may qualify for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. If you have a Plan, Medicare will rebate part of the cost of seeing a private psychologist for up to 10 visits in a calendar year. Your GP can let you know whether you qualify for a Plan.

Emergency Mental Health Assistance

If you or someone around you is in immediate danger due to a mental health condition, we recommend treating this as an emergency. No matter how serious your condition, there is always emergency help available.

For assistance in a mental health emergency, call Mental Health Triage on 13 14 65 available 24 hours, seven days a week.

Depression and Anxiety

One in seven Australians will experience depression in their lifetime, while one quarter of Australians will experience anxiety. One of the biggest challenges is the fact there is no single, easily-identifiable cause for depression. This is much the same with anxiety, as it can be brought on by a combination of factors.

The two conditions are different, yet closely related, and share many of the same symptoms. Both can be caused by life events, family history, ongoing stressful events or even other chronic illnesses.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, we’re here to help. There is a range of different treatments available for sufferers of depression and anxiety, and the best place to start is by talking to your GP. We can assist by completing a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which may lead to referrals to a psychologist, psychiatrist or other health professional.

Don’t suffer unnecessarily, because there is always help at hand. Book an appointment today, and speak to us about getting your mental health back on track.

Beyond Blue can offer immediate support over the phone on 1300 22 4636, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All calls are one-on-one with a trained mental health professional and completely confidential.

Drug and Alcohol

Alcohol and drug addiction can be crippling for many people and their families. Drug addiction can take many forms, from illicit and recreational drugs through to a dependence on prescription medication. Alcohol is legal for consumption, however alcohol abuse and addiction leads to a range of health and societal problems.

If you’re experiencing issues controlling your drug or alcohol use, or if your use is affecting those around you, it’s time to do something about it. There is always help out there, and there are many government programs dedicated to helping people deal with drug and alcohol addiction.

Take the first step and speak to your GP. We can discuss a range of services, and work with you to develop an action plan.

Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA) provide confidential telephone counselling and information between 8.30am and 10.00pm every day.
